Maharashtra Dayanand Society is an umbrella body of the Canossian Sisters, who have made a mark in the field of education, health care and other initiatives dedicated to the upliftment of the poor Adivasis of 5 talukas and their multifaceted needs. It is relevant to note that the Canossian Sisters ventured into Talasari more than 65 years ago,

when the area was almost isolated and inaccessible, deprived of even the basic amenities. Yet with determination and dedication, and with hearts full of hope we provided the best we could, for the upliftment of the poorest of the poor tribals. The main aim of our mission was that the tribals would free themselves from all unreasonable superstitions and develop through education into worthy citizens of the country. Hence the sisters began visiting the people in the villages, started mobile clinics for leprosy patients and a small dispensary for other patients. Through these activities we were able to convince the people to send not only their sons but also their daughters for primary education. Now these activities are expanded with the help of generous people.
